Description

ITALIAN MILITARY: 9th Infantry - 50th Anniversary, Italian War of Independence:  During the first war of independence , the hamlet of Governolo, with its ancient double drawbridge over the river Mincio , was the scene of two battles:
- the first , on April 24, 1848, which allowed the small Modenese army to repel an Austrian raid from the fortress-city of Mantua
- the second , on 18 July 1848, which allowed the Sardinian general Eusebio Bava to regain the bridge, which had in the meantime been abandoned.  The second battle of Governolo was a clash between the troops of the Kingdom of Sardinia , led by General Eusebio Bava , and those of the Empire of Austria , commanded by Prince Francesco by Paola of Liechtenstein . Despite the victory obtained by the Piedmontese, the success achieved weakened the already unfortunate military deployment of the Piedmontese, extending it by a good 20 km.  This Undivided back Era (1901-07) postcard is in good condition.  No. 4.
