Victorian Papier-Mâché Eyeglass Holder

Victorian Papier-Mâché Eyeglass Holder. I was told this was from the 1800’s and made of paper Mâché. I’m not sure if there’s wood underneath or what it is it is all made of. The top has chips of mother of pearl pieces. As you can see the inside what is used, this piece was used and for the age is not in bad shape, as you can see on the bottom there is one piece of either paper or material missing. This eyeglass holder Measures roughly 6” long by 1-1/2” wide. When I measured this and think about it I’m not sure if it actually was intended to hold eyeglasses. Please see all photos.
